Inspiring the Next Generation: New Nuclear Propulsion Key Stage Learning Resources

The Defence Nuclear Enterprise is proud to announce the addition of two brand-new Key Stage learning resources on Nuclear Propulsion, developed as part of the DNE Eko Outreach Programme. These engaging, curriculum-aligned materials are designed to spark curiosity and inspire young minds about the science, technology, and innovation behind the UK’s nuclear-powered submarines.

Aimed at pupils across Key Stages 2 & 3 (England) and P1-P7 (Scotland), the resources include:

  • Interactive lesson plans and activities
  • Real-world case studies from Royal Navy engineers
  • Animated explainer videos and quizzes
  • STEM challenges linked to real submarine design problems

These resources are part of our mission to demystify nuclear science, promote STEM careers, and attract the next generation into vital roles within the Defence Nuclear Enterprise.

“We want young people to see the exciting opportunities in engineering, physics, and defence innovation. These resources are designed to be accessible, inspiring, and rooted in real-world applications.”  DNE Skills Team

Parents/carers, teachers, students, and educators can access and download the full resource pack from the Defence Nuclear Enterprise website: KS2 Submarine Science / KS3 Submarine Science or request printed copies for classroom use.
