Start your engineering career at the heart of the UK’s most advanced Defence programmes. The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is offering an exciting opportunity to join our Technical Engineering Waterfront Apprentice Scheme, supporting the nation’s continuous at-sea nuclear deterrent.
What you’ll gain
- Earn while you learn with a competitive salary and a Level 3 Diploma (Apprentice Standard ST1395), plus the opportunity to work towards an HNC in year three.
- Hands-on experience through engineering placements and nuclear training across key waterfront locations in the UK.
- A structured three-year scheme designed to develop your skills, with the potential to secure a permanent role within the Defence Nuclear Enterprise (DNE).
- Dedicated support from an Apprentice Manager and Placement Supervisor throughout your journey.

Where you’ll be
Begin your apprenticeship in September 2026 at the National College for Nuclear (Cannington). Support is available to help you secure suitable accommodation during your first year.
In years two and three, you’ll undertake 6‑month placements across DNE locations, with travel and accommodation covered when required. Flexible and hybrid working may be available after your initial college year.

We welcome applications from motivated, curious, and inclusive individuals with a passion for engineering. You’ll bring adaptability, resilience, and a desire to learn, alongside strong communication skills and emerging leadership potential.
Entry requirements
To apply, you must have (or be studying towards):
- A minimum of four GCSEs (A–C / 4–9)* including:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- A Science or Engineering subject
- One additional subject
Applicants using predicted grades must answer “YES” when asked if they have the mandatory grades; otherwise the system will automatically reject the application. All grades must be obtained by August 2026.
