This privacy notice informs you about the collection and processing of your personal data, ensuring awareness of how and why we use such information when you participate in our Defence Nuclear Enterprise (DNE) programmes. This includes showcasing opportunities, organising events, facilitating engagement, early careers applicant and recruitment, and responding to website enquiries. It also explains what your rights under the Data Protection law are.
Please note this notice refers to your personal data, this is any information that could be used to identify you personally.

The DNE is part of the Ministry of Defence (MOD). The DNE formation consists of the Defence Nuclear Organisation (DNO), the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) and the Royal Navy, all united in their shared mission to deliver nuclear capabilities and protect the Nation.

Why are we processing your data?
We process your personal data for the following purposes:
- Blogs, Case Studies, and Content Showcase: inclusion in blogs, case studies and video content featuring current DNE personnel, apprentices, and undergraduates to highlight opportunities, projects and career pathways within the DNE.
- Engagement Events: Organising and promoting events showcasing our services, career opportunities, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities. This includes outreach to schools for educational events organised by our delivery partners on our behalf.
- Early Careers Applicant Management & Recruitment: maintaining a mailing list for future early careers opportunities. Collaboration with Defence Business Services (DBS) and direct contact for tailored onboarding process.
- Contact us Enquiries: Responding to enquiries made through our website’s ‘Contact Us’ facility.
Our legal basis for processing your personal data.
We will only use your personal information when the law allows us to. Most commonly, we will use your personal information in the following circumstances:
- where the processing is necessary for the MOD’s official purposes as a government body in accordance with the lawful basis of public task under Article 6 (e) of the UK GDPR.
- where we have obtained your informed consent under Article 6(a) of the UK GDPR.
With whom we will be sharing your personal data.
We may share your personal data with authorised third parties who provide services on our behalf.
All our third-party service providers are required to take appropriate security measures to protect your personal information in line with our policies.
We do not allow our third-party service providers to use your personal data for their own purposes. We only permit them to process your personal data for specified purposes and in accordance with our instructions. For example, image and video capture at events for use on our website.
For how long we will keep the personal data?
We will only retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for.
After the retention period, has elapsed all data will be destroyed securely in line with MOD data destruction policy.

What are your rights?
Under Data Protection legislation you have the following individual rights with regards to your personal data:
- The right to be informed about the collection and use of your personal data.
- The right of access your personal data and supplementary information
- The right to have inaccurate personal data rectified, or completed if it is incomplete.
- The right to erasure (to be forgotten) in certain circumstances.
- The right to restrict processing in certain circumstances.
- The right to data portability, which allows you to obtain and reuse your personal data for your own purposes across different services.
- The right to object to processing in certain circumstances.
- Rights in relation to automated decision making and profiling.

Your personal data will be stored in a secure government Information Technology system. We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal information from being accidentally lost, used, or accessed in an unauthorised way, altered or disclosed.
