The Defence Nuclear Enterprise (DNE) is proud to announce that Engagement, Knowledge and opportunities (EKO) our Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) outreach initiative, has successfully sponsored youth sports clubs. This initiative is more than just about sport; it’s about inspiring young people to explore how they can engage with STEM subjects in schools and make informed decisions about exciting careers in STEM and the nuclear industry.
By supporting sports clubs, we’re building awareness of EKO’s mission to inspire, attract and engage with the future workforce by delivering STEM activities in sports clubs to young people and their parents/carers.
These kits are a visible reminder of The DNE’s commitment to the next generation, helping young players and their communities connect with the possibilities by offering STEM in local communities to young people who may not have engaged with inspiring STEM activities

So far, 9 youth sports teams across the DNE footprint have received EKO-sponsored kits, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Here’s what one coach had to say
“The new kits are a fantastic addition to our club kit and have given our players a real sense of pride and belonging. EKO’s welcomed involvement and investment in young people has introduced the opportunity for young girls within Saltash Utd Juniors Football club to explore a possible future career within the Defence Nuclear Enterprise”.
Justin, Coach (Saltash Utd U13’s Sabres)
The DNE will continue to look for opportunities to combine sport and STEM outreach, creating pathways for young people to learn, grow, and succeed.
